Golf course development is a living art which has grown since the sport’s inception in both landscape design and the need for hands-on supervision by highly qualified golf course architects. We believe it is crucial for architects to be actively involved during all stages of golf course design, from the very first meeting to the course’s opening. Benestams’s architects are regularly onsite to ensure the client’s vision is expressed in each element of course construction. We realize that a good relationship between the architect and the contractor is essential to the project’s success and make teamwork a priority. Drawings are more or less conceptual guidelines for course construction and can be changed onsite by the architect when required.
The link courses of the British Isles are a major source of inspiration for our design strategy. Most of these courses have a set strategy from the tee box to the green and are mostly developed by such legends as Old Tom Morris, Dr. Alister MacKenzie, Harry S. Colt, Donald J. Ross, James Braid etc. They are built with risk and reward strategy. The most significant element of their green design is that they provide many variations and possibilities to attack the pin. It is no coincidence that the best golfers from around the world travel to play these masterpiece golf courses.
Today’s best golf courses have a unique character. They integrate seamlessly into the existing landscape, respect and promote their natural surroundings and use the most environmentally sound techniques to build and maintain USGA regulation, low maintenance greens. Our design decisions take into consideration many factors including today’s playing styles, future maintenance costs and year-round playability. In addition, proper drainage is essential for good grow-in and long term soil quality—a key factor for beautiful greens.
